Aircraft ground power units

Overview

What it does

Engine-driven ground power units for aircraft starting and maintenance, with a high-speed engine directly coupled to a 400 Hz brushless alternator and specially designed transformer-rectifiers for continuous and cranking DC loads.

Models cover 20 kVA to 90 kVA AC with 28 V, 56 V and 0–70 V DC outputs, transient performance to MIL-STD-704D, and tractor-towable, electric-vehicle-driven or self-driven versions.

More than 250 units have been supplied.

Applications

  • Starting and ground maintenance of fighter and transport aircraft
  • Ground power for military helicopters
  • APU start (28 V DC)
  • Supplying two aircraft simultaneously on AC paths

Certifications and standards

  • Output power quality to MIL-STD-704D
Self-driven 40 kVA ground power unit

Features

Why engineers choose it

  • High-speed engine directly coupled to a 400 Hz brushless alternator
  • Transformer-rectifiers designed for both continuous and cranking loads
  • Electronic AVR holds regulation and meets peak starting loads
  • Microcontroller protects aircraft and GPU against output faults and records data for post-analysis
  • Two sets of output cables (AC and DC where applicable) with connectors
  • Designed for wide temperature variation and operation up to 2,500 m above MSL
  • Optional 50 Hz alternator with static frequency converter
