Rooftop hybrid solar for our office
A 30 kWp hybrid system on our own office cut diesel use, shifted load away from peak tariffs and kept the servers running through outages.

The challenge
What was needed
Our new Noida office faced grid cuts of 10 minutes to 4 hours, rising diesel costs, a generator running below 30% of its rating, and electricity above ₹9.50 per unit with time-of-day surcharges of 15–20% between 5 pm and 10 pm.
The solution
What we built
A 30 kWp array on an angled roof feeds a hybrid grid-synchronised inverter with battery storage. Solar runs the loads first; the battery charges from the grid at night and supplies the evening peak; the generator starts automatically only if every other source fails. A night saving mode shuts the inverter down after hours to stop transformer no-load losses, and on Sundays and holidays surplus power is exported under net metering.
Equipment
Key figures
| PV array | 30 kWp |
|---|---|
| Hybrid inverter | 100 kVA, grid-synchronised |
| Battery bank | 240 V, 300 Ah |
| Backup | Diesel generator, auto-start as last resort |
Results
- Reported savings of ₹6,32,436 a year
- Payback of about 4.4 years
- Shaded roof space reused for cabins, a canteen and a showroom
